smut without a compelling narrative is so pointless because there's no reason for them to have sex to begin with! this is probably why stand-alone pictures, likewise, do little to nothing for me. They can be really well-drawn and impressive and sexy, though, don't get me wrong.

i’m ok with standalone images but i think i end up cobbling together my own half-assed narrative out of the idea and imagery anyway

certainly a narrative is always better; even seeing the same character in smut a few times consistently enough to feel like the artist has a personality in mind is a vast improvement
