Hello! I wanted to contact you in regards to some art problems in "Itchy Itchy Part 2"? It appears that Median's portrait is now positioned to where it obscures a part of Andre's portrait. I hadn't noticed it until it was covering some of the portraits regarding the itchy itchy symptoms. And then there seems to be a problem of having Biff's portrait lingering in place after the slide with the dialogue, "Aw Man. you told her about our powers?" followed by the coppertone parody portrait. This-

Itchy Itchy #3 Art Problem: When the Undertakers first appear, they overlap Median’s portrait, even when Median is currently speaking. I’m wondering if it might be a “lingering portrait” problem, similar to the problem with Biff’s portrait in the previous part. It seems to be the case the following scene, when the Left Undertaker’s portrait seems to still linger in the center of the frame well into the story everytime they first appear into the scene, until there is a change of setting.

arrgh yeah i’ve been cleaning up the mess i made when i first wrote the cutscene thing and i suspected i might’ve broken a couple of the older ones.  sorry about that i’ll try to fix it soon

i think this stuff is all fixed now, and i fixed a couple other minor bugs as well

(though there might be more, who knows)

Anonymous asked:

what do you think is the worst thing about the code you write?

i’ve written a lot of code so that’s kind of a broad question

i often start a neat architectural thing but don’t figure out how to finish it so it stays in a sort of half-baked state for a long time with a lot of TODOs sprinkled around

i have not had flash installed for at least seven years
here is a screenshot i took of youtube in march 2008, eons before html5 video was a thing, playing via a greasemonkey script that shoved the flv into the vlc browser plugin

we have made rather remarkable progress since then

flash is a lumbering security hole and increasingly obsolete. so help it along. uninstall flash. you can do it!

(ps: you can play twitch, livestream, etc. in a REAL ACTUAL VIDEO PLAYER with this)

hi eevee! in a rushed half-asleep haze i just accidentally deleted my entire blog while trying to delete a sideblog and i'm pretty upset about losing years worth of work gaining followers for my art. i'm feeling like an idiot, but in attempt to feel less like an idiot i wanted to ask: do you think tumblr's UI is really unintuitive? it's so confusing to get to sideblog settings, and then not accidentally ending up on the main blog settings again.

uhhhhhhhh wow that fucking blows, sorry  :(

and, yeah, i don’t know what the hell anything on tumblr does.  like i just finally realized that if you go to “edit appearance” which looks like this:

image

and you click on the button, you get this:

image

which is why i keep losing all the formatting in my header — because changing my avatar from here also re-saves the header, without the formatting!  note that it’s full of links in the first image but plain text when i’m editing in the second.

so instead you have to go to the whole blog theme editor thing, which also lets you change your avatar, for some reason

it is a huge clusterfuck

i mean, props to tumblr for actually supporting something vaguely resembling multiple logins at all, but…  wow

zenthis asked:

Sorry if this has been asked before, but what are you using code/programwise to make Itchy Itchy?

nothing; it’s just javascript and css that i wrote from scratch.  well, and jquery, but i’d kinda like to get rid of that

you can see the source code if you want.  individual scripts are at the bottom.  it’s actually coffeescript, but that’s just javascript without all the braces really.

i’m probably gonna have to expand this into a real thing other people can use, so marl can put any future cutscenes together, because atm it’s super tedious and i don’t have a lot of free time

Hello, not sure if this is the right place to ask this but, the second part of Itchy Itchy won't load for me, which is weird because the first part loads every time. Meanwhile, the second part doesn't even seem to try to load. I don't get the "transferring data from..." thingy like with the first, and I'm not sure what could be causing it. Seems to work fine for other people though. I've tried refreshing and turning off adblock but neither has worked. What should I do? ~DarthRevanFTW

if it’s the same problem a couple other people have run into, clearing your cache might help.  no idea why!  doesn’t make any damn sense.  still trying to figure out what’s going on.

HI staff I THOUGHT YOU MIGHT WANT A LIST OF BUGS IN YOUR WEBSITE?  SINCE IT SEEMS LIKE YOU’RE AT A LOSS FOR WHAT TO DO WITH IT AND ARE JUST MOVING THINGS AROUND EVERY TWO MONTHS

WEB:

There are no post options when replying to an ask, so I can neither use Markdown nor add tags.

With the rich text editor, it’s impossible to add more than one level of indentation.

If I click on an ask that appears on my dashboard, it takes me to the “submissions” page rather than my “inbox”, which is not enough to make the number on my inbox go away.

My default format is Markdown.  If I reblog a post with several levels of existing quoting, then switch to rich text formatting, all the quoting is lost.  The text remains, but none of it is wrapped in <blockquote>, and because of the above issue it’s impossible to fix.

Embedding images is only possible with the rich editor.  There’s no technical limitation here; I should be able to drag-and-drop or push a button and just have the appropriate Markdown or HTML added.  Anyway I’m sure you can see how these last three items combine to be super duper frustrating.

It’s similarly impossible to use @ in the Markdown editor, which is the sole reason I’m typing this in the rich editor.

In several places, the Alt key toggles between modes on keydown.  For example, when creating a photo post that already has one image, Alt toggles between “upload another image” and “add another image by URL”.  If you Alt-Tab away from your browser (say, to get to another app that has a photo you want to drag-and-drop into the post), the initial press of Alt will toggle you into URL mode, and then drag-and-drop won’t work any more!  It’s not at all obvious what’s going on here, either, and if you try to drop then you risk having the browser just load the image (the default behavior) and lose your post so far.

I still, still, regularly get a number appearing over the home icon and in the <title> of my dashboard, and I refresh, and there are zero new posts.  Sometimes there is no number, and I refresh, and there are bunches of new posts.  I don’t understand what this number is supposed to be telling me.  Also it’s very rarely anything other than (1).

Y’all should probably start showing retags, since it’s extremely common now for people to put their actual thoughts on a post they’ve reblogged in the tags.

I don’t really get how you’re supposed to develop a theme when you can only see the first page of either your or a demo blog.  How do you test search results or tag pages or day pages without actually saving the theme and just browsing your blog, which is a huge pain?

In a theme that doesn’t explicitly support asks (i.e. no Answer block), the original answer is injected into a blockquote and the post is rendered like text again.  Clever!  But last time I checked the answer is injected into the last blockquote, when it should be injected into the first, in case someone did a bunch of inline replies.  (I have done this several times and it ends up looking totally ridiculous.)

It seems pretty bad that some of the blessed themes still don’t support asks in the first place, come to think of it.  Here’s looking at you, Pink Touch 2.  Some of the standard themes also don’t include important information like timestamps.

This is more a philosophical complaint, but there’s not really any way to tell if a post is popular because of its original content or because of something someone else added.  If I were a huge nerd I might want to see a collapsed graph of the spread of a post, forking wherever someone added to it or edited it.

In most places on my dashboard, whenever I see a username attached to a post or a reblog or whatever, it links to their post.  In the actual notes of a post within a blog theme, the username just links to their blog; there is no link to the reblog unless they added commentary.  So I can’t see which version of a post someone reblogged, or when they reblogged it, without going hunting.

A few months ago, for seemingly no rhyme or reason, all the HTML was stripped from the description (the blurb at the top under the title) of my blog.  I had a bunch of links in there, and it was turned into just plain text.  Same thing happened to Mel, who says it happened again right around the recent dashboard change.

ANDROID:

On more than one occasion I’ve answered an ask and had both the answer and the ask vanish into the æther.

As far as I can tell, it’s impossible to see the timestamp for anything anywhere in the app.

There’s no way to just look at a person’s blog.  Anywhere I can tap their name probably takes me to a particular post on their blog.  And because there’s no real view of a post, just a blog starting from a post and continuing backwards, I can never tell if I’m looking at a blog from the beginning or from some arbitrary place.  There’s no button to jump back to the beginning if I’m not already there; I would expect tapping their avatar to do this (I believe it does in the similar website theme), but it just shows me their avatar full-size.  You’d think I could use the search tab to find their blog, but sometimes I’ve typed in a (short?) username of a regular public blog and it has not appeared as a result!

Sometimes a blog gets “stuck” on a post.  As in: I will tap a post of mine (via the icon on the right, so I see my version of it) on the activity tab, and I’ll see that post on my blog.  Then I’ll go back to the activity tab and tap a different post on the same blog.  And my blog will come up, and the spinner will spin, and when it’s done, I’m still looking at the first post.

The activity tab sort of arbitrarily decides to switch to a particular group blog of its own accord sometimes, even though I have never deliberately looked at that blog‘s activity on my phone.  Sometimes it will even show that group blog as the current one selected, but show activity for my main blog

It’s actually kind of ridiculous that if someone leaves a long reply (as in, not a reblog, but a follower actually replying right in the notes) to a post of mine, it gets truncated in the activity feed…  so to see the whole thing I have to load the post on my blog, scroll to the bottom, tap the notes, and then scroll through them to find the actual reply!  It’s limited to 250 characters of plain text, just show the whole damn thing.

The “view in Tumblr” button on the website, when viewed on my phone, doesn’t actually launch the Tumblr app; it just takes me to the Play Store website where I can install Tumblr.  Which is already installed.

Formatting is completely fucked up.  The default is “plain text”, but if I make any line breaks, they are collapsed into single spaces.  (It appears the entire post just gets wrapped in a single <p>…</p>, which of course doesn’t work.)  If I switch to Markdown, the post metadata thinks it’s markdown, but it ends up rendered like plain text — I have to go edit it on the web and immediately save to get it to actually render correctly.  I can’t change the format for existing posts; the radio buttons are there, but tapping them does nothing.

Relatedly, it doesn’t seem to be possible to embed images into posts in the app, or…  really do any formatting of note at all, even though my phone is kind of a prime source of images to embed.  See, phones nowadays are also cameras, so I’d expect to be able to take a photo and just jam it into a reblog or the answer to an ask or something.

I also can’t edit any of the quoted text (or even see the quoted text when reblogging, presumably because the editor doesn’t support formatting of any kind and couldn’t show a blockquote.  Seriously how did you make a syntax-highlighted Markdown editor in HTML but you can’t make a textbox that supports anything other than plain text in a native app?

Once or twice I’ve attempted to edit my answer to an ask, and just got a blank editor window, which I think suggested I was writing a new answer, but I didn’t risk trying it.

I can’t see the ask while I’m writing an answer, and I can’t see what I’m reblogging while I’m commenting on it.

UI rage: when I’m looking at post options, I expect the top right button to be “save these options”, but it’s actually still “publish the post”!  I have to hit the top left button, which would usually mean “cancel”.

I don’t know why there is sometimes a lingering notification for “uploaded reblog” as though that’s an interesting and noteworthy thing to have happened that I need to know about and then actively dismiss.

Can I just pay you five bucks and never see ads on the app again because goddamn.

Please fix at your earliest convenience, thanks!

chispshot:

pssst actually, tumblr notifies you when somebody answers your ask now, as long as you didn’t ask it on anon.

maybe you have that turned off, though. the lack of logs is still very troubling though.

lmaoooo what when did this happen. i guess that would’ve been good to know huh

i love this bold new future where huge platforms just make software changes and don’t bother to tell anyone, long after their userbase has already trained itself to avoid broken features

Just wondering, but what can you tell us about the CryptoLocker virus and how to prevent it from infecting our computers?

i don’t know if cryptolocker is even still making the rounds

but there’s not much special about it, so do the things you should be doing anyway: don’t open email attachments, don’t browse shady-ass porn websites, use adblock, run linux

although if you keep regular backups, cryptolocker’s threat is a complete joke, so maybe do that too

Just to be certain, but there's no chance of that new automated system Tumblr set up will shut down PK's Tumblrs because of the music uploads she had posted, right? Since they're original and all.

i have no idea, and i don’t know for sure what the automated system does because most of the links in that post link back to the same person’s own blog saying the same things but without links??  i’m generally suspicious of anyone reading into tumblr’s motivations

but absolute worst case there are dmca counter-notices
