i don’t think this sends the message you think it sends. in fact i think warner bros execs are doing a jig on their boardroom table over getting the kind of advertising they can usually only dream about, for a marginal cost of zero

“wow there are really people who don’t turn their computers off at night?” yeah because my computer is my medium-term memory. i constantly forget what the fuck i am doing but i can look at my computer and there are lots of clues sprinkled everywhere. if i turned it on fresh every morning i would (a) have to spend like half an hour opening way too many things again and (b) effectively have amnesia

Just to make this explicit: You do not need to clear your RAM. That is not a real thing

well I disagree with the original post but also I do cycle all of my prod servers every 24 hours and think it’s important to do so. Cattle, not pets, you know?

i am not sure i have ever rebooted a server deliberately. it reboots when linode has to move it to another datacenter every couple years. similarly the last time my deskop rebooted was when the power went out and my ups battery was dead. my current uptime is 889 days and 116 days respectively
