Ugh... you know he killed more men than he killed women, right? How can he 'take their lack of rights for granted' hmm? Dude was a sexist, but trying to make this all about sexism is just disrespectful to the deceased. Also no sane person does what he did. You know why? Because what he did is in the DEFINITION of a sociopath.
You know feminism is about men too, right? (As an aside, this is not all about sexism. He was racist, too.) This guy took women as his God-given right, he took them for granted. It was about his desire to own them and to make them his. It’s what fueled his rage against the men, as well. It is very much so about sexism, and trying to ignore that is very naive.
Please, please stop trying to go “oh he was only insane” - if he had not been in this culture where misogyny thrives and pushes men to this brink of madness over not getting laid and owning women/others, this problem would not have manifested like this. Do not try to pretend otherwise. Would he have had other problems? Probably, but as it is, people just use “that person is insane” to absolve themselves from having to think about the cultural context behind their actions. That is absolutely not acceptable. Furthermore, the police were warned about this dude by his family and they didn’t listen. Maybe if we lived in a society where mental illnesses were taken more seriously, and in a society where hating and feeling entitled to women and therefore resentful of men wasn’t a broad norm, well then maybe this wouldn’t have happened this way.
