As someone who does identify as gender neutral, is asexual, and does have a hormone "disorder," and is also healthy, these people are pretty annoying. "You should get that fixed" has been a constant theme ringing in my ears for a long time now and you know what? Maybe there is such a thing as a world with people with vast amounts of possible differences and maybe we are living in that world, and maybe not everyone needs to try and convince others it is wrong to be different.

this is gonna be an increasingly tricky problem as we get better at “fixing” more mundane things

i recall a news article from a month or two back; apparently some of the deaf community is upset that cochlear implants are now standard affair for deaf children, because that will effectively kill deaf culture

on the one hand yeah it’s a shame that say ASL might disappear; it seems to be a neat language and full of visual puns which i can appreciate

on the other hand there were some people insisting that deafness isn’t a problem to be fixed, but just another point on the spectrum of human ability

but while my first inclination is to dismiss that as absurd, why do we not similarly perceive asexuality as a problem to be fixed if possible?  is it about how much it interferes with one’s life?  is it because we don’t actually know how to fix it?

we’re barrelling towards a lot of uncomfortable questions like these and i don’t know how to answer them
