person who submitted original "mismapping/misidentification" ask: yeah! there's stuff like BIID (a mapping disorder) and stuff like capgras, fregoli, cotard's, and subjective doubles (identification disorders) and if you're into psychopathology or just neuroscience they are HELLA INTERESTING. i thought about mentioning them but in the end i didn't because the latter family involve serious delusions and i was afraid even bringing them up in the context of dysphoria would be really offensive.

yeah i’m a little worried about conjecturing wildly about trans (or really anything) because i know i get a little brash and carried away with the analogies sometimes
i mean it is a disorder, in the strict psych sense of “a thing that’s so bothersome it interferes with daily life”. but that is a very broad definition.
i dunno it’s so weird that people as a whole can be so tempted to squash all psychological problems into one big “totally fucked up in the head” category, when we can clearly delineate between “common cold” and “ebola” even though they’re both physiological diseases
