Hey you're using the Unicode symbol things. They look great on my phone, but on my Chrome/Windows7 laptop, they look like little question marks in boxes.
yeah you need a font that has emoji glyphs
Symbola has most emoji, including some of the fabulous additions to unicode 7.0 (not yet released) like 🖕
and BabelStone Han fills in a couple other gaps in recent Unicode
