What makes you recommend Python the Hard Way? I see it recced everywhere, but all I ever hear is "it's the standard intro". I love Python now, but I picked it up from Project Euler and tinkering because PtHW was just so gruelingly joyless. (I have a lot of thoughts on Learning And Recall.)

it is the least-bad introduction and i have a soft spot in my heart for at least trying to get the student to grasp what is going on, and teach critical side skills like attention to detail

if/when i write a programming book i don’t think it’ll go quite the same way, but for now i don’t have anything better.  “tinker with project euler” is a bit hard to recommend  :)

i am definitely interested in what green programmers think of LPTHW though
