re: Genderqueer

what? everything is an identity.

and it’s a psychological medical condition if anything, so the lines are already pretty fuzzy. you can’t pop open someone’s brain and point to a spot and go “ah yes, this is the thing right here that defines dysphoria”. it’s entirely about how people feel and how we categorize those feelings.

in other words you appear to be drawing the line based on what appears in the DSM which seems a bit silly—surely you’re aware how ludicrously fuzzy and fallible the DSM has been in the past

speaking of, the DSM-5 has been explicitly changed to include distress as part of a diagnosis for gender dysphoria, which matches a whole lot of other diagnoses where interference with normal life is a criterion

This shift reflects recognition that the disagreement between birth gender and identity may not necessarily be pathological if it does not cause the individual distress, said Robin Rosenberg, a clinical psychologist and co-author of the psychology textbook “Abnormal Psychology” (Worth Publishers, 2009). For instance, many transgender people – those who identify with a gender different than the one they were assigned at birth – are not distressed by their cross-gender identification and should not be diagnosed with gender dysphoria, Rosenberg said.

so i suppose this agrees with you, except the bit where it explicitly refers to transgender people who are happy how they are, which i guess are the people you’re erasing

“What the fuck is gender if not defined by gender roles?” So essentially, everyone that identifies as female has to adhere to very specific roles and same goes for men is what you’re saying. A boy who wears makeup is not a boy then correct? Because boys don’t do that- so they’re “genderqueer”? Because I would disagree.

you didn’t answer the question, which was serious

what is gender?

it can’t be about genitals, because you said outright that it’s different from sex

it can’t be about roles, because you just said it isn’t

so what is it?
