sorry hang on let me get this straight. your plan is to
- get something you want, for free
- allow it to saturate your brain, despite associating it with “evil”
- announce this to the world, thereby making clear to everyone around you that harry potter as a brand is so indispensable (and the game in particular so good) that you literally cannot bear to simply not play 1 video game
- pat yourself on the back for having done some sort of activism
i don’t think this sends the message you think it sends. in fact i think warner bros execs are doing a jig on their boardroom table over getting the kind of advertising they can usually only dream about, for a marginal cost of zero
rowling has incomprehensible amounts of money. the 2¢ she gets from everything that says harry potter on it means nothing to her. she is dangerous because she has cultural power, and you’re only reinforcing that when you broadcast how willing you are to play her work as long as you first make the huge personal sacrifice of not paying for it
