the negative stereotype of the feminist hurts the movement as a whole, and is exactly why the movement is needed in the first place: the stereotype that women have nothing to say worth listening to because of their looks or being “unfuckable” is the exact sort of thing that is absolute bullshit, a thing that feminism calls out loud and clear
the fedora stereotype is almost always used when joking about how hateful or ridiculous a guy is being toward women for the mere fact that they exist. if a guy is being respectful and courteous about his views and not actively trying to antagonize anyone, no dismissive stereotypes are going to be thrown in his face to ignore his words. seriously, it’s a little ridiculous - one stereotype (against feminists) is used to dismiss an entire movement on the grounds of the looks of specific people (which ends up having harmful effects on society and its view toward women), where the other is used to dismiss those who like to try to use the feminist stereotype to shut down the words of women. they’re not the same thing, as much as you’d like to believe them so.
