I'm not sure I can really blame people for not ending a friendship over wrongs committed against strangers. What I *do* find objectionable is that people can't accept the idea that somebody can be nice to one person and cruel to another. Very often when a serial killer is arrested their friends come out of the woodwork and insist that they're innocent, despite a mountain of evidence.

who’s asking anyone to end friendships?  there is a vast middle ground here

if i found out that my best buddy did something super skeezy to someone else, i would be super frowny and harangue em until e made it better

because, as someone’s friend, i tend to feel moderately responsible for encouraging em to do the right thing, not just defend eir dumb ass when it hits the fan
