please do not equate real life and fictional people, they do not mean the same thing. Disliking the way a character is drawn is not the same as disliking real life people who happen to look like that.

I see people confusing the two all the time. Like, rolling your eyes at the tired, old “bikini battle armor” trope is not the same as saying that all women are supposed to cover their skin in real life. It’s just noticing that “hey, this outfit is completely impractical for the world this character inhabits.“ and you lose your suspension of disbelief.

And it’s pretty obvious why; It’s not there because it makes sense, nor even because it just looks cool, but just because it’s sexy. And so some people, myself included, can’t help but wonder why the integrity of certain fictional worlds needs to be compromised just so it can have sex appeal.

And more specific to the examples in the source, there’s personal style, and then there’s completely reconstructing Opal’s face because you think it’s unattractive. Opal’s completely unrecognizable, and again, we all know why.

before i realized op was plebcomics i thought this was like a vent comic about the common frustration with the tired excuses presented by the dude there because it provides nothing to support them, and i was gonna comment like “yeah, exactly, artists like this never do listen theyre always parroting the same transparent shit”
