There have been some accusations from a person named Sarah/Lain, but who we knew as spaggledagger.  We would like to set the record straight.

PK did not compare autistic people to sociopaths

You can read the logs yourself in the exact same post that makes this claim.

This was a segue; there was no comparison to autism whatsoever.

Note from PK: I was reading a book about brains and how they work, and talking about it there. I have no idea how anyone could misread the conversation as comparing autistic people to sociopaths or calling them “emotionless demons” (where did that even come from?).

That’s not what “freezing ram” means

She says: The CSA dept at my area police said that even if Marl freezes his ram chat logs will still be able to be recovered.

That doesn’t make sense. “Freezing RAM” is a technique for getting information off of encrypted hard drives; it’s not something a criminal would want to do. I’ve also never heard of it being done in the field, only for the sake of writing academic papers. Even if it’s in use, it would be by the FBI, not area police. This conversation almost certainly didn’t happen.

She told us where she lived

She says, now: I am still paranoid about that to this day because they mentioned living just down the street from the area I live in.

When she first came into #forbiddenflora, a few people mistook her for someone else (“X” below) because her hostname was the same - which was the only reason anyone mentioned it.

It was a pretty friendly and humorous introduction, in which she freely told everyone the town she lives in.

And…  all that stuff about Marl

The conversations with Marl did not happen.  None of the quotes she attributes to Marl sound anything like how he types, if you’ve ever seen him do so.

Curiously, the first time she tried to tell this story (and apologized for not having logs), a newcomer appeared in the channel the very same day to ask:

But I also cannot find a single line in any of my logs where she says she’s 13.  What I did find is a conversation between several of us the day she left.

Some context: on March 5, spaggle invited a friend to the IRC, and the two of them were moderately disruptive.  The people who found their behavior annoying tried to explain to them what the problem was, to little avail, and the conversation grew heated a couple times.

On March 7, spaggle made some tweets about the situation that are now deleted, but our discussion in #flora makes clear that she’d been complaining about “ageism” and in the process had revealed her age to us for the first time.

I found no other mentions of anyone being 13 the entire time she was present.  There’s no indication in our logs whatsoever that we, or anyone else in the chat, knew her age until the day she left.

She wasn’t even kicked out; she came in, argued a bit more, then left and basically never returned right around this time.  The true cause for her leaving was apparently this argument about how she and her friend had started disrupting the channel out of nowhere.

She has done this before

Someone else saw PK’s tweets on March 7 and sent this email (emphasis mine):

Hey,

I’m a moderator of a small webcomic community at [redacted]. I might be too late to the party to be useful, but I saw that [spaggle] person attacking you on Twitter and I wanted to give a warning.

In general she seems to have a history of getting into fights and harassing people, and weird/creepy solicitations.

Last summer, we banned her from our community due to breaking several rules and begging for sexually explicit info from adults. She and some of her friends then proceeded to harass users and moderators on IRC and Tumblr and other sites, as well as attempted to spread lies about “abusing” them.  I can’t verify this info but one of these friends later told us that she was 12 at that time, so this is wildly inappropriate behavior.

To sum up, I think [spaggle] is a destructive individual and I would advise taking actions to prevent her from doing the same to your community. Feel free to contact me at this address if you need any further information, or help.

By the way, Eevee is not defending child porn

The context is right in the screenshotted tweets: basically i am squicked by the idea that merely possessing some particular information should ever be illegal

This is the same kind of train of thought as: I am uncomfortable with the idea that merely saying words should ever be illegal, therefore we should not have laws against using slurs.  That doesn’t mean I think using slurs is good; it means I think moral panic shouldn’t override our usual criteria for what makes a good law.

The world would surely be a better place without CP.  The world would also be a better place if teenagers weren’t labeled sex offenders for the rest of their lives for taking photos of themselves, and art gallery websites didn’t have to wring their hands over whether Harry Potter slash art counts as CP.

It would also be a better place if people could so much as ponder the issue aloud without being accused of defending abhorrent behavior, much the same way that discussions of free speech are usually understood to not imply all speech is good.

In conclusion

Her post is complete and utter bullshit, written to spite people over an Internet argument two years ago.  This is not the first time she’s tried to make this stick, and we’ve tried to ignore it until now, because God knows the pushback you get when you rebut an accusation with actual evidence.

She has no evidence, no corroborators, not even another person with a similar story.  Yet she’s threatened multiple times to multiple people to file a police report and has never done so, even going so far as to come back to IRC to taunt Marl about it.

We barely know anything about her, we certainly have no interest in interacting with her in any way, and we would very much like her to leave us alone. This is what we have wanted for a year and a half now. And as soon as she thought we didn’t have any logs, she began her rumor-mongering.
