i didn’t decide to build a zany modular thing BECAUSE mel asked for a website — i already had it in progress and wanted to make real-world use of it

the idea was (a) to never have to write all the boring parts of a website like login again and (b) to make it possible to install a comic thing, or a blog thing, or BOTH, and have them work nicely together.

kinda like how you can hack a lot of php junk into using phpbb for logins, and then pretend all these parts of your site that look radically different actually work together nicely. except this would be on purpose.

naturally the hardest parts have been dealing with “shared” space not owned by any single component, like the front page or the main navigation. and you may notice that these are the clunkiest parts by far.
