“majority opinion”?

some people have followed or unsupported mel over this, without comment.  some of them likely did it based on false information, and hopefully we can address that.  but i assume some just didn’t like the original rant or didn’t want to be involved with a mess in general.  and that’s fine.

people also quietly unfollow mel during quiet times; they don’t like her art any more or they don’t like the current subject matter or whatever.  that’s fine, too.

there are still a great many people following her and her art, though.  it’s nowhere near a majority that don’t like her tone.  it’s a small handful of people who feel compelled to make a public spectacle of it.  it’s frequently the same people every time something comes up, too — many of whom have some long-standing grudge over something they did to her, and whom want to jump on any “ugh pk did X” bandwagon out of spite.

i deliberately call it a “public spectacle”, reminiscent of what mel herself is accused of, because it’s true.  the very people who want mel to be polite are themselves never polite about letting her know.  which supports my whole semi-deification thing.  it’s very silly.

you would be right, otherwise; it’s a matter of cause and effect, not of what “ought” to be.  but the effect is not actually that more than half her fans leave her when she makes an angry post.  it’s just that all the people who support her doing so, or who don’t care either way, don’t parade around the internet starting a loud campaign about how she should post whatever she wants and telling stories about this one time she made an angry post and it was cool to read and they were happy for her.
